- 2Select the account, then “View statements”.
- 3Choose the statement and select “Download” to save the PDF.
Menu names change from time to time; see www.hsbc.co.uk for the current steps.
What makes HSBC statements tricky
- The date is printed only on the first transaction of each day; following rows inherit it.
- Payment type codes such as DD, SO, VIS, CR and BP prefix the description; they are kept in the description so nothing is lost.
- The balance appears only at the end of each day, so reconciliation is done per day.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert a HSBC statement to Excel?
- Download the statement PDF from HSBC online banking, drop it onto this page and choose Excel or CSV once the transactions appear. Most statements take a few seconds.
- Is it safe to upload my HSBC statement?
- Files travel over HTTPS and are converted by our own software, with no AI services involved. They're deleted automatically after 24 hours (72 if the conversion fails, so we can fix it), and you can delete them yourself right away.
- Does PDFGenie check the HSBC balances?
- Yes. Each transaction is checked against the running balance where the statement prints one, and the opening/closing balances otherwise. Rows that don't add up are flagged so you can review them.
- Can I convert scanned statements?
- Yes. Pages without a text layer (scans and photos saved as PDF) are read with OCR on our own servers, and sideways or upside-down pages are turned upright. PDFs downloaded from online banking are still the most accurate, and the balance check flags any row OCR may have misread.
